2012 TOURNAMENT

WINNERS:  JETTS 1

WEST SUFFOLK NETBALL SENIOR TOURNAMENT - SUNDAY 24 JUNE 2012

West Suffolk Netball organised their annual summer netball tournament on 24 June 2012 at County Upper School and again all proceeds would be donated to St Nicholas Hospice.
This year ten teams were competing from across all the divisions, including many of our junior players from Zena’s Division, which started promptly at 9.45.  We had hoped (prayed) for good weather and that’s what we got initially.

By round four the clouds started to rapidly move and by 11.15 the heavens opened, and all teams took cover.    A mini stream was running from the netball courts down to the changing areas and a gang-plank had to be erected to enter/exit the sports hall!

All teams ventured out again to recommence the second half of the fifth round of matches but again teams and umpires were competing not just against their opponents, but against a third team, the weather conditions!

A meeting of team captains was held following the last match and it was agreed that the tournament would be abandoned.  The committee were disappointed to have to abandon the tournament but it really was the only option, in the interest and safety of all our players and umpires.

One club member from Haverhill said “ …at least we raised money for the charity, and that’s what we were here for…” .  The British weather may have caused us disruption and washed out our netball but the great support for our chosen charity never dampened, and was no washout.

All teams competing  paid their entry fee and many made donations to the prize raffle, and even donated their deposits for the competition.  Some teams who could not compete made generous donations to boast our fundraising efforts, and we scored £300 + all for St Nicholas Hospice.  The clear winner of the day was St Nicholas Hospice!

Tracey Butcher would like to express her thanks to all clubs, players , umpires  and spectators supporting the event and particular thanks to Paula Fenner for setting up the tournament’s matches.

ZENA'S DIVISION - SUMMER TOURNAMENT 2011

To ensure that the young players experienced a complete night of netball each team played each other in ten minute matches with a quick turn around between matches.
